About the Cupcake Tour of New York
Ever since Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte popularized rampant cupcake-eating on Sex and the City, the portable (and adorable) pastries have taken on a life of their own across New York. This tour offers a chance to taste the best cupcakes the city has to offer -- and even build your own custom cupcakes.
There are multiple sweet stops on the tour, where you get to sample the goods. Highlights include Baked by Melissa, a bakery offering the teensiest, and more adorable, cupcakes in the world; Molly’s Cupcakes, where tour-goers can pick a cake flavor, choose a yummy frosting, dress it up with tasty toppings, and then watch it made in front of you; and, of course, the famous Magnolia Bakery, the place where the cupcake craze began (and where you’ll get a delicious red velvet cupcake).
Approximately two hours.
The tour runs Fridays through Sundays at noon and 3pm, rain or shine.
Did you know?
The first mention of the cupcake was in 1796, when a recipe notation of “a cake to be baked in small cups” was written in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons.
Before muffin tins were available, cupcakes were baked in individual pottery cups, which gave the small cakes their names.
Anyone who has an affinity for small baked treats will adore this tour… just make sure to show up with an appetite (although there is always room for dessert, right?).
Good for kids?
Kids do love cupcakes, so there isn’t any reason not to bring them. This is a two-hour, sugar-filled walking tour, though, so keep that in mind when planning.
