About the Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise – City Sightseeing
The Macy's Fourth of July firework show is the largest display in the country and a New York summer centerpiece. It can feel like everyone in the city gathers near the Hudson River to see it, but the best view of the show isn't at the water—it's on the water. The City Sightseeing Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise takes its guests on a four-hour evening tour with views of pyrotechnics going off on the Hudson River. What better way to view the Manhattan skyline than lit up from the water by a fireworks display?
The cruise boards along the west side of Midtown Manhattan and sets sail at 6pm, with boarding at 5:30pm. Visitors can help themselves to traditional Fourth of July fare as each passenger gets a free hot dog, fries and soda on board. For those who like their hot dog and fireworks with a beer, a cash bar will be available on the boat. A casual dinner menu is also available for purchase.
A live DJ provides the family-friendly soundtrack during the entirety of the tour. The Macy's Fireworks show blasts off from the Hudson River around 9pm and lasts 26 minutes. The impressive display launches nearly 40,000 shells exploding at a rate of over 1,500 per minute for a whole lot of fireworks to enjoy!
This cruise boat's placement in the Hudson River means you'll be where all the action happens. Enjoy the show from the inside of the boat, where seating is available, from the top deck, or from the very front of the vessel. Wherever you look, the cruise provides unobstructed views set against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline.
The cruise ship docks back on the west side of Manhattan around 10:45pm, about an hour after the fireworks show wraps. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better, more intimate way to enjoy one of New York's most celebrated holidays.
Four hours and 45 minutes
Did you know?
This firework celebration can be traced back to the Bicentennial of the United States in 1976. That year the city staged a fireworks show produced by the Walt Disney Company. The next year, and every year since, Macy's has hosted the half-hour show.
Three million people are expected to view the Macy's fireworks display. Macy's goes through about 75,000 pounds of fireworks each year.
Both visitors and New Yorkers who are looking for a truly unique view of the famed fireworks can't beat this cruise. Those who want an intimate view of the fireworks but escape from the punishing city crowds will also appreciate the venue as well.
Good for kids?
This tour is great for older kids who don't mind being on a boat for four hours and can stay awake until the 10:45pm docking time.
