About Shearwater Daytime Sail - Manhattan By Sail
The Shearwater Daytime Sail from Manhattan by Sail is a 90-minute voyage around New York Harbor that allows passengers to take in some of New York City's most famous sights while relaxing aboard a stately schooner yacht that was declared a national landmark in 2009. The 82-foot yacht has a capacity for less than 50 passengers, which makes for an intimate vibe and ample opportunity to chat with the friendly crew.
A cheerful staff member will greet you at the North Cove Marina, where you can snap photos of the elegant Shearwater against the stunning backdrop of Manhattan's World Financial Center, Freedom Tower (One World Trade Center) and other iconic downtown buildings before the sail begins. Once you board the boat, you can find a spot to settle on one of the various benches or even sprawl out on the teak deck. Beverages are offered for sale during the duration of the Shearwater Daytime Sail, with beer, wine, soda and water all available.
The voyage offers a wonderful opportunity to get an up close look at the art of sailing, as you can watch the crew in action throughout the duration of the trip. Passengers have freedom to move about the Shearwater at all times, so those who are curious about sailing may want to observe the captain steering the boat or head below deck for a look at what it would be like to sleep onboard. All may want to have their cameras at the ready to snap a shot when the crew unfurls the Shearwater's sails – no doubt a stunning and dramatic image to capture.
This scenic trip provides many photo-worthy moments, as the Shearwater's slow glide along the Hudson River provides passengers with ample chance to snap shots of the New York and New Jersey skylines from various vantage points. The Shearwater's unhurried pace as it circles around New York Harbor will also give passengers plenty of time to take photographs of Ellis Island and the seemingly close-enough-to-touch Statue of Liberty.
