About the Shearwater Champagne Brunch Sail – Manhattan by Sail
New York has a floating national landmark in the form of the Shearwater, an 82-foot vintage schooner yacht. 80 years old but in tip-top condition, the Shearwater harkens back to the Roaring '20s, the era of The Great Gatsby and Jazz Age extravagance. Though she is elegance incarnate, with native white oak and polished brass and chrome details, there’s no need to don a flapper dress or Panama hat when you're on board. Her crew keep it casual: Just pick any Sunday to embark on Manhattan By Sail's Shearwater Champagne Brunch Sail, a laidback yet lavish adventure at sea.
Accommodating up to 48 passengers with plenty of room to spare, the Shearwater was designed by naval architect and marine engineer Theodore Wells, and constructed in Maine in 1929 by the Rice Brothers, who were known for their luxury shipbuilding excellence and matchless expertise. She has been welcoming passengers on a sturdy sail along the New York harbor since 2001 and was designated a landmark in 2009.
For the Shearwater Champagne Brunch Sail, you'll cast off from the Hudson River’s North Cove Marina located in Battery Park City, some of the most beautiful urban landscape in the country. When you’re not taking in picture-perfect views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, follow the spiral staircase down to the mahogany passageway and get comfy in the historic state rooms furnished in period décor. The opulent interior features Art Deco furniture, a coal-burning stove and an all-marble restroom (or “head,” as the sailors call them).
The brunch menu includes bagels with cream cheese and jams, smoked salmon, granola, yogurt, assorted fruit and sliced country breads like zucchini and banana. Other dishes include brioche sandwiches with ham and brie or smoked turkey, bacon and chedder and quiche with spinach and mushroom or ham and onion. There is also coffee and tea service.
While the Shearwater Champagne Brunch Sail offers plenty of non-alcoholic beverages for teetotalers, there is, of course, an open bar stocked with Prosecco (additional options such as beer and wine are available for purchase). The fun, personable staff keeps it flowing from sail to dock. Jay Gatsby would surely approve.

Shearwater Champagne Brunch Sail details
Though the Shearwater has hosted many luxurious events over the years, the vibe is relaxed so there is no dress code. However, the crew asks that you wear soft-heeled shoes to help protect the beautiful deck from scuffmarks.
