You know you have made it in New York when Barbara Corcoran opens the doors of her Central Park penthouse and says, “If you have $12 million in your pocket, I’ll sell it to you.”
That is how the tour begins. The Shark Tank star has lived here for seven years, and now she is ready to let someone else take over her dream home. The apartment sits above the city with sweeping views of Central Park. It is as much a story about New York as it is about real estate.

Staged to Perfection, but Still Hers
The apartment has been fully staged by Vesta. Every room was changed three or four times until the look was just right. Barbara admits the stagers did a better job than she did, but she drew the line at her garden. The lilac bush, the fountain, the corner nook on the terrace all remain untouched.
The terrace is her pride. She has slept there under the stars more than once. One night she woke up drenched in rain but laughed it off. Corners are always cozier, she insists, and in New York cozy space is pure gold.
Reinventing the Space
When Barbara bought the apartment, the upstairs was a bathroom. She tore it out, brought the kitchen from downstairs, and created a kitchen in the sky. She says it made all the difference. The light never feels cloudy and even when it rains the space feels bright.
Details that Matter
The penthouse still shows her personal taste. Handmade quilts line the rooms. She paid as little as $25 for some, never more than $300. She values them because of the time and care that went into each one. She also keeps her favorite desk and admits she loves affordable art.
Other personal touches have been put away. Her husband’s war trophies once filled a wall in the master bedroom. She packed them up because no buyer would want to picture that in a home. Even her daughter’s room was redesigned to look more marketable.
A True New York Story
The most striking part of the tour is how Barbara found the apartment. Years ago she worked nights as a messenger while keeping her business alive. She delivered a package to an older woman in this building and glimpsed the terrace. She asked the woman to call if she ever decided to sell. Decades later, after Barbara had become well known, the woman called. Barbara bought the apartment on the spot.
The $12 Million Listing
Now the penthouse is on the market. Barbara says she wants a family who will love it as much as she has. She is nervous waiting for a bid because she hates things left unfinished. The asking price is twelve million dollars. For that, you get Central Park at your doorstep, a terrace that feels endless, and a piece of New York real estate history.
