New York City hotels rarely surprise people anymore.
But every once in a while, one does.
In this episode of One Day Stay, our host Clay checked into Dream Midtown, spending 24 hours inside one of Midtown’s most personality-driven hotels to answer one question:
Is Dream Midtown actually worth it?

Here’s the full breakdown.
First Impressions: An Aquarium in the Lobby
From the moment you walk through the front doors, Dream Midtown immediately feels different.
Instead of a traditional lobby design, you’re greeted by a full aquarium — fish swimming behind glass as part of the hotel’s entrance experience.
It’s subtle, but memorable. And in New York, that already puts this hotel ahead of many.
The lobby also offers:
- Comfortable workstations
- Open seating areas
- Strong Wi-Fi for remote work
- Staff positioned everywhere, ready to help
The check-in process was fast and frictionless. But what stood out immediately was the energy of the staff.
They weren’t just efficient — they were friendly, proactive, and genuinely welcoming. Guests were being offered water, champagne, and help without having to ask.
That tone defined the entire stay.
The Rooms: Spacious by NYC Standards
For this stay, two room types were tested: a double queen and a single queen.
Both rooms shared the same overall impression:
Not luxury.
Not cramped.
Just… well done.
Room highlights:
- Spacious layout (by NYC standards)
- Comfortable beds and pillows
- Clean, modern feel
- Good sleep setup after long walking days
There were a few minor quirks:
- Some visible wear on the bed frame
- Trash can placement varied by room
- Doors required a firm close
One room initially had a smell issue — but this became one of the biggest positives of the stay.
The staff immediately moved the group into a new room within five minutes, no hesitation, no friction, no excuses. And when they arrived, the hotel had left gummy bears waiting.
It was a small gesture — but it reflected how the hotel operates.
Problems aren’t defended.
They’re fixed.
And that matters.
Amenities: Variety and Personality
Dream Midtown doesn’t overload you with unnecessary features, but what they offer feels intentional.
Amenities include:
- Free passes to an off-site full gym
- A rooftop bar and lounge with skyline views
- A connected cocktail lounge
- Lobby workspace access
- Long-hour luggage storage (until midnight)
The rooftop is a real highlight. The views are excellent — but it gets very busy. If you plan to use it, reservations are smart.
Food wasn’t sampled due to the crowds, but that crowd level alone was telling. And while no menu review was possible…
The gummy bears still earned a 5/5.
Location: One of the Strongest Assets
Dream Midtown’s location does a lot of heavy lifting.
You’re within walking distance of:
- Central Park
- Rockefeller Center
- Times Square
- Hell’s Kitchen
This is a true Midtown base. Whether you’re sightseeing, dining, or working, the hotel works with your day — not against it.
Work & Connectivity
Wi-Fi performed well throughout the stay, including lobby work sessions.
If guests need higher-speed connections, the front desk provides promo access codes to boost performance.
That small detail shows that business travelers weren’t an afterthought.
The Night Test: Can You Actually Sleep?
Noise levels were better than average for New York.
You’ll still hear the city — because it’s New York.
But for a Midtown location, the rooms controlled sound better than expected. Sleep quality held up well.
Price: $317 Per Night
Each room came out to roughly $317 per night.
Given:
- The location
- The room size
- The rooftop access
- The lobby functionality
- And especially the staff performance
This price point lands in a very competitive position.
Final Ratings
Room: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (3.5/5)
Amenities: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Food: Not rated (but 5/5 gummy bears)
Location: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Bottom Line: Was Dream Midtown Worth It?
Yes — and largely because of the people.
The rooms are solid.
The location is strong.
The amenities are fun and functional.
But what truly elevated this stay was staff execution.
They were:
- Energetic
- Accommodating
- Fast to solve problems
- And consistently present
In New York City, hotels don’t fail because of furniture.
They fail because of friction.
Dream Midtown removes friction.
And that’s what makes it worth booking.
